THE GREAT VLADIMIR VASILIEV MADE A BRILLIANT DISPLAY AT THE OPENING OF THE OLYMPICS IN SOCHI
The legend of dance will chair the Jury of the jubilee Ballet Olympiad in Varna this year.
Vladimir Vasiliev made a brilliant display at the opening of the Olympics in Sochi and filled with admiration the fervent ballet lovers. Elegant, radiating unique dignity he partnered Bolshoi ballet star Svetlana Zakharova in a moving piece of War and Peace. The 73-year old ballet dancer, who is the live legend of world dance, was among the Russian icons of culture who participated in the impressive performance – Nikita Mikhalkov, Yuri Bashmet, Anna Netrebko, Valery Gergiev.
The name of Vladimir Vasiliev is linked with Bulgaria from the very first years of International Ballet Competition – Varna. He is the only holder of the Varna Grand Prix in the whole history of the first and most prestigious ballet competition in the world.
In July 2014, he will chair the International Jury of the Competition jubilee edition. The legendary artist, choreographer and ballet master will be in Varna at the invitation of Foundation “International Ballet Competition – Varna”, at the personal invitation of the Foundation Chairman Dimitar Dimitrov and the Member of the Managing Board Ms Sonia Dimitrova, in honour of the 50th anniversary of the Ballet Olympiad.
Vasiliev will share his master skills and will show pieces of subtlety in the performance of Basil’s part from Don Quixote ballet at the International Summer Ballet Academy. For the first time he will show in Bulgaria his other passion – to create bright and exciting paintings.
